JALT Kyoto’s Executive Board
Terms of Office November 2025 – October 2026
President: Thomas Amundrud
I am honored to stand again for president of the Kyoto chapter for the 2025-2026 term. In 2025, our chapter has continued to hold high quality events on a range of topics of interest to our current and potential members throughout our field. We have also begun the process of regularly applying for koen meigi from the Kyoto City Board of Education to certify our professional development events for public school teachers. In the coming year, we hope to extend and expand these developments, and continue to hold engaging in person, hybrid, and online events of interest and benefit to all our current and potential members and friends.
このたび、2025–2026年度の京都支部会長に再び立候補させていただけることを大変光栄に思っております。2025年も、当支部では現会員や新たにご参加を検討くださっている皆さまのご関心に沿った幅広いテーマで、質の高いイベントを継続して開催してまいりました。
また、公立学校の先生方に向けた専門能力開発イベントとしての認定を受けられるよう、京都市教育委員会へ後援名義の申請を定期的に行う取り組みも始めております。
来年度は、これらの取り組みをさらに発展・拡充させるとともに、会員の皆さま、そしてご関心をお寄せくださるすべての方々にとって有益で魅力的なイベントを、対面・ハイブリッド・オンラインといった多様な形で引き続き開催してまいりたいと考えております。
Treasurer: Lisa Cross
In my role as Treasurer, I aim to continue working with our Chapter to manage our finances. This includes overseeing all income and expenses, preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, and collaborating with our officers to ensure the budget is met.
Being the Treasurer is more than just a bookkeeper. My personal responsibility is to maintain the highest level of trust and transparency in our financial affairs. I will also continue to produce regular financial reports for the executive board and membership, which will include reports detailing the financial activities of past years. Essentially, I will continue ensuring transparency in our accounting standards.
会計担当として、引き続き本支部の財務管理に取り組んでまいります。具体的には、すべての収入と支出の管理、正確な財務記録の作成と維持、そして予算を確実に達成できるよう役員の皆さまと協力することを含みます。
会計担当の役割は単なる簿記以上のものです。私自身の責任は、本支部の財務において最高水準の信頼と透明性を維持することです。そのために、今後も理事会および会員の皆さまに対して定期的に財務報告を行い、過年度の財務活動を詳述した報告も提示してまいります。すなわち、会計基準における透明性を継続的に確保していくことをお約束いたします。
Program Chair: Samia Haseeb Khan
Since stepping into the role of Program Chair in January—following my time as Co-Program Chair—I’ve had the opportunity to organize events that foster connection, collaboration, and professional growth within the Kyoto JALT community.
Facilitating gatherings that bring educators together is something I’m genuinely passionate about. My past experience planning workshops and networking socials has given me valuable insight into creating engaging, inclusive, and impactful events. Whether it’s brainstorming interactive activities or coordinating behind the scenes, I’m committed to cultivating experiences that are both meaningful and enjoyable.
Although I’m still relatively new to Kyoto JALT, I’m excited to continue contributing and building on the momentum we’ve established this year. I would be honored to serve another term as Program Chair, and I look forward to helping shape an even more vibrant and welcoming community in the year ahead.

1月にプログラム・チェアの役割を引き継いで以来（それ以前は共同プログラム・チェアを務めておりました）、京都JALTコミュニティにおいて、つながり・協働・専門的成長を促進するイベントを企画・運営する機会をいただきました。
教育者同士をつなぐ場をつくることは、私にとって本当に情熱を感じる活動です。これまでワークショップや交流会を企画してきた経験から、魅力的で包摂的、そして実りあるイベントを生み出すための貴重な知見を得ることができました。インタラクティブな活動を考案するにしても、舞台裏の調整を行うにしても、私は常に意義深く、かつ楽しい体験を提供することに尽力しています。
京都JALTに加わってまだ日は浅いですが、これまで積み上げてきた成果をさらに発展させ、今後も貢献していけることを楽しみにしています。次期もプログラム・チェアとして活動を続けさせていただければ光栄です。来年はさらに活気に満ち、温かく迎え入れるコミュニティづくりに寄与できればと思います。

Membership Chair: Kate Piatkowski
While my time as Programming co-chair was short, I gained invaluable insight and experience creating and organizing meaningful events for the Kyoto JALT community and more. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with other groups and educators in JALT with their workshops and conferences.
Moving forward, I am excited to take on the role as Membership chair. I aim to assist our community with maintaining a connection to Kyoto JALT and I look forward to connecting with so many people. I’m positive I’ll gain even more amazing experiences from this position, and I look forward to working with and assisting our community in any way I can.
プログラミング共同委員長としての任期は短いものでしたが、京都JALTコミュニティやそれ以外の方々のために有意義なイベントを企画・運営する中で、貴重な知見と経験を得ることができました。ワークショップや大会を通して、他の団体や教育者の皆さまと協力できた時間は大変有意義で、心から楽しむことができました。
これからは、会員担当としての役割を担えることを楽しみにしています。京都JALTとのつながりを維持しながら、できるだけ多くの方々と交流できるよう努めてまいります。この役職を通じてさらに素晴らしい経験を得られると確信しており、コミュニティのためにできる限り貢献し、皆さまのお役に立てればと願っております。
Membership Chair: Dominic Edsall
This past year, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Membership Chair for Kyoto JALT. It’s been wonderful getting to know so many of you, welcoming new members, and finding ways to help people feel connected to our vibrant community. I’ve learned a lot in the process, and I’m grateful for all the conversations and collaborations that came out of it.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to take on a new challenge as Facilities Chair. My focus will shift from membership to making sure we have the right spaces for our meetings and conferences, as well as helping whomever takes on the role of membership chair.
I am really looking forward to continuing to work with such a dedicated team and to seeing many of you at our upcoming events — in spaces that I hope will help our community shine.
この1年間、京都JALTの会員担当として活動する機会をいただき、多くの皆さまと出会い、新しい会員の方々をお迎えし、活気あるコミュニティの一員としてつながりを感じていただけるよう努めてまいりました。その過程で多くを学び、また数々の対話や協働を通じて得られた経験に心より感謝しております。
今後は、新たな挑戦として会場担当を務めさせていただきます。役割は会員担当から移りますが、引き続き会員担当を担う方を支援しつつ、例会や大会にふさわしい会場の確保・運営を担ってまいります。
献身的なチームの一員として活動を続けられることを嬉しく思うと同時に、これからのイベントで多くの皆さまとお会いできることを楽しみにしております。より良い会場環境を整え、私たちのコミュニティがさらに輝けるよう尽力いたします。
Publicity Chair: Donny Sparrow
Since mid-2018, I have served as the Publicity Chair, ensuring that our monthly newsletter remains a high-quality publication that keeps members informed about both chapter activities and JALT at large. It plays a key role in chapter communication and outreach.
In addition to the newsletter, I have actively promoted the chapter through Facebook, Twitter, and face-to-face events, helping to strengthen our public presence. Looking forward, I am eager to continue developing our publicity efforts in close coordination with the website and JALT PR initiatives.
My goal for the coming year is to contribute fresh ideas and effective public relations strategies that will support our chapter’s growth and engagement with both members and the wider community.
2018年半ばより広報担当として活動し、月刊ニュースレターを通じて、支部の活動やJALT全体の情報を会員の皆様に高い品質でお届けできるよう努めてまいりました。ニュースレターは、支部のコミュニケーションと広報活動において重要な役割を果たしています。
ニュースレターに加え、FacebookやTwitter、そして対面イベントを通じて支部の広報に積極的に取り組み、私たちの存在感を高める一助となってきました。今後は、ウェブサイトやJALT全体の広報活動と連携を深めながら、広報活動をさらに発展させていきたいと考えております。
来年度の目標は、新しい発想と効果的な広報戦略を提案・実践し、支部の成長と会員の皆様、さらには地域社会とのつながりを一層強化していくことです。
Publicity Co-Chair: Edward Escobar
This will be my fourth year as the publicity co-chair. I will continue to support the chapter’s presence online through kyoto.jalt.org and various social media platforms as well as provide support in media design. The last 2 years I’ve also been providing (and will continue to provide) logistics support for hosting hybrid events via YouTube LIVE to increase member presence at chapter events.
今年で広報副担当として4年目を迎えます。引き続き、kyoto.jalt.orgや各種SNSを通じて支部のオンラインでの発信を支え、またメディアデザインの面でもサポートを行ってまいります。
さらに、この2年間はYouTube LIVEを活用したハイブリッドイベントの運営面でのサポートも行い、会員の皆様の参加機会を広げてきました。今後も、こうした取り組みを継続し、支部イベントへの参加促進に貢献していきたいと考えております。
